The Sauk Prairie Ambulance Association's Bike Medic Program
currently has four bikes in operation, each of which is fully loaded
with a full complement of equipment and supplies to allow the
operator to be fully prepared to operate in "first response" mode.
This equipment includes advanced skills medications, IV supplies,
advanced airways and a LifePak AED. This program was initially
designed so that emergency personnel would be able to reach patients
in settings where it might otherwise be difficult to access them in
a timely manner, such as in large crowds. The Bike Medics are
used several times each year in our district at such events as Fire
on the River and the annual Cow Chip Throw. Thanks to the
implementation of an enclosed trailer, we have been able to provide
assistance to other districts, as well, such as the Baraboo Circus
Parade. Many of our members are trained and certified to operate
as Bike Medics with our service, allowing us greater flexibility in
providing this program to the community when needs arise. In
addition, all Bike Medics go through a reorientation each year to
assure that their ability to operate the bikes and equipment
efficiently in "first response" mode is kept at the optimum level.
